The Bess Story
Gene and Dobby
We first met on Twitch in 2019, A well known streamer by the name DGthe99, Raided his stream out to MEENGENE.
If that raid never happened ours lives would be totally different today. We started gaming together, and from there the brother-ship started. We gamed together for 6 years before meeting each other for the first time in September of 2025. -Photo, first time meeting at Spokane Airport, Washington.
The flight that changed it all
Little did we both know that after we first met we would be parting way with the idea and concept of starting a business together. Well, I kind of knew. Before leaving I knew I wanted to own and operate a business with my best friend of 6 years at this point. So I knew I would pitch an offer to Gene. I start with "Okay so here is the cherry on top, I'll float the upfront capitol and lets start a fishing lure company" Gene, "Lets go!". Once heading back to Alaska, we've worked together through online communications 2500 miles apart and built and start BBCo. from the ground up!
Time to get to work!
We couldn't be running down the Snake River without some new glass. Both of us being military, Gene had his deployment to... that's classified. Anyways, Gene got home and decided it was time for a deployment gift. So Gene found himself the best deal ever on a Ranger Boat, from one of the best guys ever. An ol'time angler by the name of Dennis. Dennis has been so supportive, this old man even transferred Gene his Lifetime membership to Bassmaster Magazine. Dennis, you sir are an angling legend, and we thank you so much from the deepest parts of both our hearts, truly. This part of Our Story will always be here!
So its begins
Being I have done plenty of work on my own boat. I know my way around quite well. So I said "lets hook her up!"
Now it may have been 9pm when I made this statement, but we were determined to not only be on the water the following day, and be on that water with Gene's first Tripleshot* glass. "the big deucer"!
And it continued...
Well into the hours of the... post midnight A.k.a. Yeah we didn't go to sleep till like 2:30 am. I mean we literally ran these lines by taping the new line to the old with electrical tape. Yeah I know, fish tape... we both know. Anyway, low and behold the Ranger was on the water the next day, and we were heavy on the weed beds, being we could see them now!
Changing the future
Dobby has had a camera in his hand for 24 years. Soon to be a quarter century! He is an absolute master of photography and cinematography. He has worked on movies, tv show, commercial's, you name it he has probably done it! He can walk in a room and tell you proper camera settings and not even have one of his many cameras in his hands. Truly a master craftsman.
So here is where he changed the future for Gene.

The first shoot
On this day Gene fell in love with Cinematography. Gene didn't know really anything Cinema at this point. Once he saw the results. He'd have a cinema camera in his hands soon enough.
For the love of fish
Growing up we both fell in love with fishing at a very young age. They say "If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in you life" so BBCo. and HGB is our dream. Following down the path in our love for fishing, our respect of these beautiful creatures, and the love of these absolute amazing animals, that not only do we get to catch. We'll tell you there is nothing better than when it's on the lures that you yourself have created from a company you've built from the ground up.
